New Pagan Leader Chosen
A new pagan leader has been chosen for the Pagan Society in Iceland (Ásatrúarfélagid). Replacing Jörmundur Ingi as ‘High Chieftain’ will be composer Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson. Hilmarsson, who has been a pagan since his teenage years, has enjoyed great success as a composer and musician in Iceland, having composed beautiful musical scores for Fridrik Thór Fridriksson’s films. Hilmarsson joined forces with Sigur Rós last year for ‘Odin’s Raven Magic’, a stunning composition which was premiered at the Reykjavík Arts Festival. Hilmarsson will now be kept busy as High Chieftain, conducting all religious ceremonies such as solstice festivals and marriages. He has already begun to grow his beard long.
